FORMULA 2000 RACE FORMAT 2005
Scandinavian Formula 2000 Powerboat Championship, nowadays also Formula 2000
Mercury Grand Prix, is the official Scandinavian Championship Formula 2000.
The Scandinavian Formula 2000 Open Powerboat Championship is so far the most
spectacular class that powerboating can offer. This series has in the last
years become more and more international. The growth of this Championship
series is a result of continuous efforts of organisers, teams, sponsors and
national Federations. They have all supported the Formula 2000 concept which
2003 changed Title to Formula 2000 Mercury Grand Prix. This concept will
still be the most prestigious Powerboat Championship to win in Europe.

Raceformat has the first eight years been very similar to the Brittish
Touring Car Championship, BTCC. Each race has been lasting in 15 minutes
plus two laps and two races has been run at each event.
We are now changing to a new format, which is very much alike what they are
doing in USA, home country for racing. The events will still be run over a
Saturday. The drivers will face a programme including Free practice, Timed
Trial, Qualifying 1, Qualifying 2 & a Grand Final.

Some Events over the season will also include a “Match Race”. This means,
two drivers challenging each other over two laps on a specific racecourse.
The Match Race contest includes Qualifying, quarterfinal, semifinal & final.
Match Race contests mostly run late Friday evening.

These powerboat races begin from a standing start along the "pit dock" in
the same manner that made Le Mans such a famous event. The drivers reach the
first turn bouy in over 100 mph (160 kph) and in a split second they
accelerate out to next one. Drivers can experience up to 4G`s of centrifugal
forces as they maneuver around the turn bouy. If you watch the races live or
on television doesn´t matter. I`m convinced you will be fascinated by the
fight.

The drivers are competing for the Official Scandinavian Formula 2000
Championship and, in addition, the Scandinavian Timed Trial Trophy. Match
Racing is an option 2005. The winner will be honnored at race site plus at
the “Season Award Banquet”.

This Championship has from 1999 been open to the world.
We have seen participators from Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Latvia,
Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and U.A.E.
